Special Entry Permit Requirements (Not general visa-free):
Hong Kong and Macau Residents: Holders of HKSAR passports or BNO passports do not have standard visa-free entry where they can board a flight with just a passport. Eligible Hong Kong permanent residents can apply for an online temporary entry permit (net-entry) for a stay of up to 30 days.

No Extensions:
For most tourist entries and temporary permits, the authorized stay cannot be extended or converted into another visa type.

Mandatory Documentation: Depending on your status, carrying either your approved electronic travel authorization (such as Taiwan's entry permit for HK residents) or complying with official arrival card requirements is mandatory.
3. Transit Rules and Policies in Taiwan
Short-Term Air Transit: Passengers transiting through Taiwanese airports (such as Taoyuan International Airport) without leaving the airport transit area generally do not require a special entry permit, provided they stay airside and hold valid onward tickets for their connecting flight.
Entering the Country During Transit: If you wish to clear immigration and exit the airport during a layover, you must hold the proper pre-arranged entry documentation (such as an approved entry permit) or qualify under your passport's specific visa-exemption rules.
